I've had a hard time figuring out when it exactly happens as it's not quite consistent. Here's when I hear it: 1. At lower speeds, I don't hear it over 35 mph.Reason #1: Worn Motor Mounts. In my 08, I used an electronic stethescope to track down the noises on 1 & 3 below. 1) The sway bar links were worn. Replacing them helped, but still clunking. 2) While doing a visual inspection, I found the harmonic damper was rattling. It only exists on manual trans models. For giggles, push on the back quarter panel around the fuel door, find a firm place on the panel to push on and get the car moving laterally. You should be able to get the car oscillating sideways. On my 10-20 minute city drives, the engine sounds like a normal gas engine vehicle when the accelerator is being heavily depressed from a stop or on the highway - like it's being heavily worked.
